Daniel Karlsson & Thomas Markusson Duo Brus 026
The duo format is a classic in the realm of jazz. The small setting a great vehicle for exploration in timbre and interaction as well as a challenge of keeping the music interesting for outside ears. This said the duo is more often than not a guarantee for great music and there’s an abundance of evidence for this… For us luddites who still prefer to interact with our tactile senses when it comes to our music listening the possibilities of bankruptcy when acquiring a worthwhile collection seem imminent; Oscar Peterson and Ray Brown’s early Verve recordings, Jim Hall and Ron Carter on Alone Together, Bill Evans and Jim Hall on Undercurrent and Intermodulation, John Abercrombie and Ralph Towner’s Sargasso Sea, Charlie Haden and Kenny Barron’s Night and the City, Chick Corea and Gary Burton’s numerous duo albums are just a few of the titles that come to mind… A good Swedish example, Jan Johansson and Georg Riedel’s classic and 50 year celebrating Jazz på svenska (Jazz in Swedish) album.
Brus & Knaster are very proud to present the debut album of a new Swedish piano/double bass duo. Stockholm based pianist Daniel Karlsson (Oddjob, Daniel Karlsson Trio, Magnus Öström Band) and Gothenburg bass player Thomas Markusson (Daniel Fredar Trio, Walter Lang Trio) improvising freely over a selection of original material, on an album simply entitled Duo.
Emphasis on jazz.
