The Wind-Up Waltz Brus 008
Meet Yosei – a band with a feel and flair for sweet expressionism that with their finely tuned instrumentarium create an urban brand of folk-pop with a touch of jazz.
The new album, The Wind-Up Waltz, is comprised of a set of beautifully shimmering sounding songs inspired by singer/sax-player Lina Langendorf’s insightful travels around the globe. Clearly indicating that the band’s name, a Japanese word meaning fairy, is aptly chosen
The Raven was recorded in Svenska Grammofon-studion in Gothenburg and was mixed by August Wanngren (Wildbirds & Peacedrums etc).
Lina Langendorf has, since 2009, been seen performing on Jenny Wilson’s album Hardships! as well as playing saxophone in Jenny’s live band. A cooperation that Jenny states ”Gave her album a whole new dimension”. Lina has previously worked with Marit Bergman, Blood Music, Rubies and Jonna Lee. Between 2007 and 2009 Lina has, under several periods, lived and worked in Mali where she performed with musicians such as Toumani Diabaté, Bassekou Kouyaté, Baba Cissokho and Lobi Traoré. The other members in Yosei are: Putte F-M Johander, Andreas Ekstedt and Martin Nilsson. They can also be heard with such artist as: Mando Diao, Lekverk, Fattigfolket, Sofia Jannock, Sekten, Melpo Mene and Irma Schultz Keller.
“Yosei want to stretch the expected. Blasting into small guitar and organ solos where you least expect it. Lina Langendorf’s singing style is heavily influenced by jazz singers like Sarah Vaughn. Backed by the group’s blazing mix of Sufjan Stevens arrangements and Stina Nordenstam melancholy the result is a stylish genre crash. Probably one of this spring’s best Swedish records.” (Helsingborgs Dagblad)
